2 pts. Watched “Pirates of the Silicon Valley”

The movie was very interesting and pretty much followed the video we had just watched in class. This video gave much more information about how Apple and Microsoft we invented and how they both changed over time. I liked seeing all the different stages of the computers and it brought back memories from when I was in elementary school and used an Apple II to play games and type reports. Also using the large floppy disks to save my work. It was really nice to see how it all started. The character of Bill Gates really creeped my out at times and I just wonder if this was how he really was or just the way the actor portrayed him.

1 pt. Use an alternative OS for daily tasks

Since I use a MAC daily and run OS X I stopped over by my grandparents a few times over the last week and did some work on their PC, which runs Windows XP. I used to be only a PC user but since working for Racine Unified I have switched over to a MAC, so it was interesting when using the PC. As I was working, checking my email or looking at pictures I constantly wanted to use my command keys to do different things but had to remember that I could not do that on this computer. I liked using Windows XP and quickly got the hang of doing things differently. At times is ran a bit slower than I was used to but nothing too unbearable.

2 pts. Investigate a different type of OS

Since I was using Windows XP at my grandparents house I decided to explore Windows Vista to see what features it offered compared to XP. I looked for information on the Microsoft website (http:/www.microsoft.com) and found a section comparing the two versions. Vista has a much large Photo Gallery, has an instant search to find things, and has a Game option to download and store games quicker. It also has a section to customize Parental Controls for safer child use, a restore center to back up files, and has a great way to protect your data against theft or loss. Windows Vista is the current version right now but it is a step up from Windows XP. I like the updated Photo Gallery and Game section. The Home basic version requirements for Vista include a 1 GHZ 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, 512 MB of system memory, 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space, DVD-ROM drive, 32 MB of graphics memory, audio input and internet access. It was released in November 2006. I have not had the opportunity to actually use a computer with Vista.
